SKIN PEELS

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off, revealing smoother, rejuvenated skin underneath. The specific ingredients and concentration of the chemical solution vary based on the type and depth of the peel. Here's a general overview of what a chemical peel consists of:

  1. Preparation: Before the peel, the skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup, oils, or impurities.

  2. Application: The chemical solution is then carefully applied to the skin using a brush, sponge, or cotton applicator. The solution contains active ingredients such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), or trichloroacetic acid (TCA), each serving different purposes and depths of exfoliation.

  3. Duration: The solution is left on the skin for a specific duration, determined by the type of peel and the desired results. The treatment duration can range from a few minutes for a superficial peel to longer periods for deeper peels.

  4. Sensation: During the application, individuals may experience a tingling or mild burning sensation, which is generally temporary. The esthetician or healthcare professional may use a fan or cool compress to minimize discomfort.

  5. Neutralization (if needed): Some peels are self-neutralizing, while others require neutralization with a special solution. This step halts the chemical reaction on the skin.

  6. Post-Treatment: After the specified time, the chemical solution is either neutralized or simply washed off. Post-treatment care may include applying soothing creams, sunscreen, and avoiding sun exposure for a specified period.

The chemical peel process stimulates the skin's natural exfoliation process, leading to the shedding of damaged and dead skin cells. This promotes collagen production and reveals a smoother, more even-toned complexion. The depth of the peel determines the extent of skin shedding and the specific skin concerns addressed, making chemical peels a versatile solution for issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and uneven pigmentation.

DERMALOGICA FACIALS

A Dermalogica facial is a comprehensive skincare treatment that follows a thorough and personalized approach to address specific skin concerns. While the details of each facial may vary based on individual needs, a typical Dermalogica facial often includes the following key steps:

  1. Consultation: A trained esthetician begins with a detailed consultation to understand the client's skin type, concerns, and goals. This helps in customizing the facial to meet specific needs.

  2. Skin Analysis: Utilizing Dermalogica's Face Mapping technique, the esthetician conducts a meticulous analysis of the skin. This involves dividing the face into zones to identify concerns such as dehydration, congestion, sensitivity, and more.

  3. Cleansing: The facial begins with a gentle cleansing using Dermalogica cleansers tailored to the client's skin type, removing makeup, impurities, and excess oil.

  4. Exfoliation: An exfoliating treatment follows, typically involving a Dermalogica exfoliant designed to slough off dead skin cells and promote skin renewal.

  5. Extraction (if needed): If the client has congestion or blackheads, the esthetician may perform manual extractions using specialized techniques to clear the pores.

  6. Massage: A relaxing facial massage is often incorporated to improve circulation, promote lymphatic drainage, and enhance the absorption of subsequent treatment products.

  7. Masque: A targeted Dermalogica masque is applied based on the individual's skin needs, providing additional nourishment and addressing specific concerns.

  8. Toning: A Dermalogica toner is used to balance the skin's pH levels and prepare it for the application of serums and moisturizers.

  9. Serums and Moisturizers: The esthetician selects and applies Dermalogica serums and moisturizers suitable for the client's skin type and concerns, ensuring hydration and protection.

  10. SPF Application: The facial concludes with the application of a Dermalogica sunscreen to protect the skin from UV damage.

Throughout the process, the esthetician educates the client on proper skincare practices and recommends Dermalogica products for at-home maintenance. The goal of a Dermalogica facial is not only to address immediate concerns but also to promote long-term skin health and radiance.
